In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly how to fund your Shakepay account, purchase the exact amount of Bitcoin you need, and seamlessly send it to complete your payment.

How to Buy Crypto on Shakepay

Before you can buy Bitcoin, you need to load Canadian Dollars (CAD) into your Shakepay account. Shakepay makes this easy with Interac e-Transfer. You can choose to do this via a “Money Request” (the easiest method) or by sending a transfer manually from your bank.

Important Note: You must fund your account using a personal bank account in your own name. Shakepay does not accept e-Transfers from third parties, friends, family, or business accounts for personal profiles.

To get started, complete the signup process, and you’ll be directed to the home screen of Shakepay.

From here, you can select “add” to top up your wallet with a specified amount via e-Transfer, Wire Transfer, or Direct Deposit, or you can load funds and exchange for BTC at the same time via the “exchange” section (marked with two blue arrows).

Step 1: Calculate Your Total & Buy Your Bitcoin

The easiest way to get started is to go straight to the exchange section. This allows you to see exactly how much Canadian Dollars (CAD) you need to cover your order (including Shakepay’s built-in exchange spread) and prompts you to add those funds right on the spot.

1. Your Shakepay account is ready to use with zero funding fees, and you can start with as little as $10.
2. Open the Exchange: Tap the blue Exchange icon (the two arrows) located in the middle of the bottom menu on the Shakepay app.
3. Set up the Swap: Make sure you are set to swap CAD for Bitcoin (BTC).
4. Swap “CAD” and “BTC” to purchase the amount of BTC needed: Hit the swap arrows next to the input field to flip your input from CAD to BTC. Type in the exact amount of BTC you need for your order on our site (as noted on the QR code that loads after selecting Crypto as your payment method)
5. See Your CAD Cost: Shakepay will automatically calculate and display the total charge in CAD. (Note: Shakepay doesn’t charge commission fees, but they do build a spread of about 1.5% – 2% directly into this)
6. Complete the e-Transfer: You will be prompted to fund via Interac e-Transfer®. You can do this in two ways:
   • Money Request (Easiest): Follow the flow to connect to your bank app and approve the request instantly.
   • Manual Transfer: Use the provided email ([email protected]) and your unique security question/answer to send a standard e-Transfer from your banking app.
7. Confirm the Exchange: Your funds will typically arrive in minutes (if not seconds). Once your CAD balance updates, simply confirm the exchange.

Important Note: Only you can send funds to your Shakepay account from an external bank account. Make sure that your e-Transfer bank name exactly matches the name on your Shakepay profile. Shakepay does not accept e-Transfers from third parties, friends, family, or business accounts for personal profiles.

Step 3: Send Your Bitcoin Payment

Now that your Bitcoin is sitting in your Shakepay wallet, you just need to send it to the destination wallet address provided on our checkout page. You can do this in one of two ways:

Option A: Scan the QR Code (Fastest)

If you are viewing our checkout page on a computer or tablet, scanning the QR code with your phone is the fastest and most accurate way to pay.

1. Open the Shakepay app, tap “Send”, and select Bitcoin.
2. Tap the QR code icon located in the top right corner of your screen.
3. Point your phone’s camera at the QR code displayed on our checkout screen.
4. The app will automatically read our destination address. Input the exact BTC amount due for your order.
5. Tap “Speed” and choose either Fast or Normal depending on how quickly you want the blockchain to process your payment.
6. Tap “Send”! (If you have withdrawal email confirmations enabled, check your inbox right away and click the link to authorize the payment).

Option B: Copy and Paste the Address

If you are shopping entirely on your mobile phone, you can copy and paste our address.

1. From the Shakepay dashboard, tap on Bitcoin, then tap “Send”.
2. Tap the address field at the top and paste the destination wallet address you copied from our checkout screen. Never try to type this out by hand!
3. Tap the verified wallet address that populates directly below the field from your clipboard to lock it in.
4. Input the exact BTC amount required for your order and tap “Continue”.
5. Select your network speed (Fast or Normal).
6. Tap “Send”. (Again, check your email for a confirmation link if you have that security feature turned on).

And that’s it! Once your payment is broadcast to the network, your order will be confirmed shortly.
